The Mature Wine Decanter comes from the same collaboration between Richard Brendon and Jancis Robinson that produced the universal glass, but it answers a narrower and more technical question: how to decant an old wine without harming it. Aged wine needs sediment removed; it does not need the vigorous aeration that benefits young wine.
The design responds directly. The 750 ml bottle-shaped body holds exactly one bottle, and the form is kept upright and closed so oxygen exposure is limited rather than encouraged. It is mouth-blown in lead-free crystal with a matching mouth-blown stopper, and hand washing is recommended.
In use, the procedure is the familiar one done with care: candle or light beneath the bottle neck, pour steadily, stop when the sediment reaches the shoulder. The decanter's discipline is to make that ritual easier, not more elaborate. It is a current product with global shipping offered on the official site, listed at GBP 158.00 at richardbrendon.com.
